orchestra, this piece sets traditional folk themes in a contemporary musical setting. The piece has the grandeur of the a Russian choir, the rhythmic complexity of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and lyricism of Aaron Copland. The concert will also include the St. Cecilia Singers and the St. Gregory Choir which are two of St. James Cathedral's Youth Music Program ensembles, traditional children's seasonal rituals from Croatia, sacred solos by nationally recognized Croatian singer Binki Franulovic Spahi, processional of St. James' icon collection, a Croatian Christmas carol sing along and a processional by Vela Luka dancers with lanterns reminiscent of Adriatic villagers walking to church services.

This marvelous collaborative project is a grassroots effort which will build and strengthen our community through a blend of regional and international relationships. Not only will people in Anacortes, Seattle and Vancouver benefit from participating in the project, but also the participants from Croatia will benefit now and in the future. Composer Tomislav Uhlik and Goran Kacurov, orchestra director of the professional Ensemble Lado, will come from Zagreb to the Northwest to train and inspire our local ensemble.

Performers will represent many of the Northwest's finest ensembles. Northwest Folklife and Ethnic Heritage Council are sponsors of this production which is supported by the King County Arts Commission and private donors. Find out how you can get involved.
